Somewhere between “I’m bored” and “what’s for snack?” is a kid ready to do something that actually matters. Saturday, June 13 in Mason, EcoPal and Cincinnati Climate Week are throwing them the party to prove it.
The short version (parent edition)
Saturday, June 13 · Mason · Free.
EcoPal is hosting an afternoon for Cincinnati’s first-ever Climate Week-and yes, the kids are basically running it. Youth volunteers will be hosting, helping, and calling the shots. Grown-ups can relax and pretend they planned something educational.
Oh-and there’s a big-screen movie: David Attenborough: A Life on Our Planet. Sir David does the heavy lifting on the “why this matters” speech so you don’t have to.
Big Hall, ORCA Coworking · 408 4th Ave, Mason, OH · Free for families.
Event highlights
- The Great Eco-Book Swap - Bring gently used books. Take home new favorites at no cost.
- Free zero-waste popcorn - Complimentary snacks with nothing headed to the landfill.
- Youth-led from start to finish - Young volunteers host and help run the afternoon alongside EcoPal.
“Visions of Tomorrow” Climate Art Competition
Start creating now-this one’s worth a head start.
The “Visions of Tomorrow” Climate Art Competition invites all kids under 18 to show what they hope our planet looks like in the years ahead. Green cities. Clean rivers. Wildlife thriving. Neighborhoods where people look out for each other and the Earth. If your child can imagine it, we want to see it on paper or canvas.
How it works
- Create at home - Drawings, paintings, collages, and mixed-media pieces are all welcome. Use whatever you have: crayons, markers, watercolor, recycled paper, old magazines. There’s no “right” style-only your kid’s vision.
- Bring it to the fest - Pack the finished artwork carefully (a folder or flat tote works great) and bring it to ORCA Coworking on Saturday, June 13. Youth volunteers will help collect entries at the event.
- Win eco-prizes - Standout entries earn eco-prizes for creativity, hope, and originality. Every piece gets seen. The best ones spark a conversation worth having.
- Put a name on it - Please write the artist’s first name and age (under 18) on the back so we can celebrate every young creator.
Need a spark? Here are a few prompts kids can run with:
- What does your neighborhood look like when everyone cares for the planet?
- Draw an animal you’d love to protect-and the world it deserves.
- What would “tomorrow” look like if you were in charge?
